Happy Anniversary!

Hubby will faint with the amount of anniversaries I have marked down in my calendar! Anyway, October 6 three years ago was when we got married legally (the paperwork stuff). To some people (especially in Malaysia), they call this “step” engagement. =)

We were lucky and thankful that both our parents were here in the US and witnessed us signing our lives away getting married. =) . 3 years have definitely flew by so quick! I just come to realize this year’s anniversary….we’ll be in Venice, Italy. Ahh..how romantic, eh! =P =)

Happy Anniversary, dear! XOXO

Vinh Sun BBQ @ Boston, MA

Hubby and I love Chinese BBQ meat (duck, pork, chicken) and is always in search of a goof BBQ place. We usually get our Chinese BBQ meat from Hong Kong eatery but have over time dislike that place. We’ll leave that for another post. =)

Anyway, not wanting to go back to Hong Kong Eatery for BBQ stuff….we decided to give Vinh Sun a try. The restaurant looked decent from the outside and the inside was clean (unlike Hong Kong) and air-conditioned.

We only ordered a rice plate and soup to share. Here’s what we got:

1) Roast Duck and BBQ Pork Rice Plate (Right) @ $6.00 (I think). Apart from the dry and stingy sauce, everything else was yummy! The roast duck was not overly oily, meaty and moist. The skin also had a nice crunch. The BBQ pork was one of the best I’ve had; juicy and flavorful! Would definitely be back for those. We initially wanted roast pork, but with some miscommunication between us and the waiter; we got BBQ pork instead. No regrets though! =)

2) Shrimp Wonton Soup (Left) @ $4.50. The shrimp wontons were yummy and they were quite generous with it. =). The soup base probably did not taste like regular wonton soup I’ve had, but still good in its own way!

If you’re not up for Chines BBQ stuff, they do offer other Chinese dishes. Check out their menu HERE or visit them personally:

Boston Chowda Company @ Boston, MA

Quincy Market

My brother swears that this place has the best New England Clam Chowder. Boston Chowda Company has a store in Faneuil Hall/Quincy Market. I got my brother a quart of the famous Legal Seafood New England Clam Chowder (served at 7 presidential inauguration dinner) last year but he still thinks Boston Chowda’s better/best.

Almost every time we’re in Faneuil Hall….we will definitely stop by Boston Chowda for some N.E. Clam Chowder or lobster bisque. I guess unknowingly we love their soup and can’t get enough of them! =) Over the weekend (after getting high on desserts), we walked over to Faneuil Hall for something savory! Soup was definitely in our thoughts. Hubby and I walked to the Boston Chowda store and ordered a cuppa soup to share! =) $5 worth of soup was definitely worth it. Portions were generous too! =)

Next time you’re in Boston, stop by Boston Chowda @ Faneuil Hall for some finger licking soup/chowder! Let me know what you think of their soups!

Leaving On A Jet Plane…

….…..but I’ll be back soon! Today is the DAY! My long awaited Europe Trip is finally here! After months of planning the day has finally arrived. I’m definitely psyched!  Hubby is also definitely looking forward to a vacay from work! In a couple hours, we’ll be boarding the plane to Barcelona, Spain where we’ll start our vacation before ending it in Rome, Italy.

Oh how fun! I’ve got all my travel books ready…….some borrowed from the library….yes, I’m el-cheapo!  Hey, why buy them when I can borrow them from the library for free!! And some we did buy from the bookstore since we could not get hold of them from the library in time for the trip! Our bags (backpacks to be exact) are also packed (yes we’re trying to travel as light as possible) and hopefully we’ve got all we need!

Ciao!~

Banana Fritters / Cokodok

Don’t like to eat overripe (and sometimes very mushy) bananas? Turn them into banana fritters! Banana Fritters is better known as Cucur Kodok or Cokodok in Malaysia. Some recipes for the banana fritters uses some coconut and some uses less flour. Nevertheless, banana is definitely the key ingredient and here’s my version!

BananaFritters

BANANA FRITTERS (COKODOK) RECIPE

Ingredients:

  • 1 /2 Lb, Peeled Ripe Bananas
  • 1 Egg, Beaten
  • 3-4 Tbsp Sugar
  • 1/2 Tsp Lemon Juice
  • 1/2 Tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 1 Cup All Purpose Flour, Sifted
  • 1 Tsp Baking Powder
  • Oil

Method:

Heat oil over medium heat. In a medium bowl, add bananas and lemon juice. Mash bananas with the back of a fork. Stir in egg, sugar and vanilla extract. Mix well before stirring in flour and baking powder. Scoop batter with a teaspoon and drop it into hot oil. Let batter cook for about 1-2 minutes on each side until golden brown. Remove, cool slightly before serving.
